Amazon drivers have won an effective minimum wage from the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission, believed to be a world first.

Starting March 1, Amazon Flex drivers will receive a minimum wage starting at $27.83 an hour and rising to $37.80 by July 1, 2025, following a successful bid by the Transportation Workers Union to change the commission.
TWU state secretary Michael Kaine said a successful bid would see some managers receive pay rises of up to 45%. According to the union, this was the first rate hike for drivers and contract couriers in 15 years.
But an Amazon spokesman said the claim was “yet another attempt to grab headlines based on false claims” and that its executives were being paid more than the average new rate.
“They created a model that deliberately classifies workers as independent contractors so they can try to keep them out of the defense system,” Kain said.
