Drive For Amazon Prime – Committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its delivery fleet, Amazon has rolled out more than 5,000 customized electric vehicles across the United States.
Amazon launched The Climate Pledge in 2019, committing to zero carbon emissions by 2040. As part of this commitment, Amazon also announced that it is working with Rivian to put 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030 and has begun work on the design of a new delivery vehicle.

In addition to ordering 100,000 customized electric vehicles from Rivian, Amazon has launched more than 15 electric vehicle models in the US, EU and India, including delivery vehicles, e-cargo bikes and e-rickshaws.
Amazon Flex Drivers Use Bots To Get More Work

What Happened To Amazon Prime 2 Day Shipping?
The company even uses map tracking, which allows customers to track their packages in real time as the delivery driver makes his way.
While many Amazon customers experience the company’s door-to-door mobile app, not much is known about who delivers the packages. A June 2022 report shared an increase in driver injuries for Amazon’s delivery service partners. Legal cases related to supply contractors have also been initiated.
The national average salary for Amazon drivers is more than $43,207. That’s about $21 an hour. ZipRecruiter says these estimates are generated by scanning databases of active jobs.
These wages may vary depending on where the driver lives and works. Some cities, such as Atkinson, Nebraska, earn $55,359 a year, while drivers in Manhattan, New York earn $49,401.
Amazon Begins Rollout Of Rivian Electric Delivery Vans Across U.s. In Drive To Shrink Carbon Footprint
Amazon introduced Flex in 2015 following the growing trend of professional drivers using their own vehicles, such as Uber, Lyft and DoorDash. Similarly, Amazon Flex allows drivers to use their cars to deliver packages.
The company reports that most Amazon Flex drivers make between $18 and $25 an hour, depending on what state the driver lives in and how long it takes to complete a delivery. Amazon Flex drivers can also pay for certain deliveries, which increases revenue.
According to Amazon’s FAQ, Amazon Flex drivers are independent contractors and are not compensated for mileage, parking or tolls.
According to ZipRecruiter, Amazon warehouse workers earn an average annual salary of $34,268. The hourly wage is about $16 an hour. Most warehouse workers earn between $27,000 and $37,500. Drivers say they are underpaid and have to urinate from bottles in their cars to keep up with their delivery rates.
James Myers worked as a driver for several Amazon delivery services in Austin, Texas for about a year before quitting in October 2020 due to heavy workloads and poor working conditions.
14-hour shifts were common because delivery service providers did not allow drivers to return any packages from a route, and the pressure to meet delivery rates meant Mears used a plastic bottle to go to the bathroom every day.
“I’ve seen no effort by Amazon to pressure delivery providers to allow their drivers to use the restroom normally, which has caused many, including myself, to cower in fear of slowing down our deliveries,” Mears said.
Suing Amazon For A Delivery Driver Hitting Your Car
“Every time a van goes off the road or stops for more than three minutes, the delivery service provider is notified. Amazon encourages delivery service owners to move to that stop. I personally get a call from the dispatcher every time I stop for the bathroom. Calling them made the stop longer. It just wasn’t worth the angry looks or the worry of a fire in the morning.”
Amazon uses contractors for delivery services, a move that Mears said makes it harder to organize workers and that he says leads to drivers being overworked and rewarded by delivery service providers who receive bonuses.
Amazon has publicly opposed unions and organizing among its workers, most recently with an anti-union campaign that began before the union vote at its Bessemer, Alabama warehouse, which included holding union rallies and sending mass text messages and advertisements to workers urging them to vote for the union.
The Teamsters union is now working with Amazon’s delivery service providers across the United States about the retail giant’s influence on the trucking industry and its use of subcontractors.

“This type of model is problematic for the entire industry,” said Randy Corgan, Amazon Teamster project manager. They are willing to give these small subcontractors loans, give them access to vans, and help promote employees to shoulder all the responsibilities that would normally fall to Amazon.
According to Corgan, Amazon delivery driver pay, which starts at $15 an hour, is well below the average pay for drivers at companies such as UPS, where the Teamsters represent about 240,000 workers. Under the current union contract, UPS drivers start at $21 an hour and can earn up to $40 an hour or more.
“If Amazon decides to take millions of jobs and basically cut labor costs in half, it’s just going to come out of the workers’ pockets,” Corgan added. This creates a major economic problem for an industry that has done well to support millions of middle-class jobs over the past 50 years.

In Iowa, the Des Moines Register reported that Teamsters are organizing drivers and warehouse workers at Amazon for higher wages and tougher prices, using strikes instead of focusing on union elections through the National Labor Relations Board.
Amazon’s contract drivers complain about the surveillance and pressure they feel through cameras and a tracking app called Mentor.
A driver for an Amazon delivery service provider in the Portland, Ore., area, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, expressed concern about installing surveillance cameras in delivery vehicles because he often has to use the van’s bathroom to free up time due to the lack of public restrooms and route pressures.
