Today, there are endless flexible income opportunities for anyone who owns a smartphone and a car, but not all apps are created equal.
If you’re trying to figure out if an Amazon delivery driver job is right for you, you need to know how the Amazon Flex app works from initial installation to the delivery of the first package.
In case you haven’t heard of Amazon Flex, it’s a delivery driver program that allows independent contractors to make money on their own schedule and with their own vehicles.
Amazon Flex drivers play an integral role in supporting the company’s full-time operations, selecting shifts when demand is high while earning the highest hourly wages in the gig economy.
However, as enticing as the job description sounds, the app’s interface can make or break the driving experience.
The Amazon Flex app is the platform that program delivery partners use to manage and close their delivery shifts, as well as their earnings and account information.
Just like the Postmates Fleet app, this mobile app is a must-have tool for anyone looking to make money on the platform.
Before we begin, keep in mind that the Amazon Flex app is a bit underrated despite being powered by one of the biggest brands in the world.
If you join and encounter problems, you should stop and try logging out of the app and back in, uninstalling and reinstalling the platform. If all else fails, contact Amazon Flex Support. .
In this section, we explain which phone models can actually run the platform properly and how to download and install the app on iOS and Android.
Amazon Flex requires Apple users to have a smartphone running iOS 11.0 or later. Usually iPhone 5s and newer models qualify.
Note: The App Store listing states that the app requires at least iOS 13.0 to run, so Amazon’s written smartphone requirement may not be current.
If you meet these requirements, you can proceed with this Android app download process, which is a bit more complicated than a regular Google Play Store download:
The Amazon Flex app is really the only place where you can register as a delivery driver.
Luckily, signing up for the app is fairly easy as long as you meet all of the basic Amazon Flex requirements.
Grant the permissions requested by the Amazon Flex app, then tap Get Started to answer a few qualifying questions, including your zip code, availability, and vehicle type.
If you are eligible, you can complete a background check and provide the required documents, tax information, and bank account information before approval.
If an Amazon Flex Gig isn’t available in your area, you can join a waitlist.
Once you are fully approved and logged into the Amazon Flex app, you can use the platform to schedule your first delivery block.
These are work shifts that last between 2 and 6 hours and are available seven days a week.
All flexible drivers must reserve available blocks in advance to deliver and win as it is not a fully on demand platform (although some last minute shifts may be available).
To arrange a delivery block, simply go to the “Offers” section of your app, tap the block you want, then swipe to accept.
If you accept a delivery hold, it will appear in the Calendar section of the Amazon Flex app.
If you are unable to work a shift, please tap the correct shift in this section and tap Miss Shift at least 45 minutes before the start time.
One hour before the shift starts, the Amazon Flex app shows your start location.
To get there, the company recommends using its in-app navigation. However, many drivers prefer to just pull out their favorite navigation app, as Amazon Flex’s directions aren’t always as intuitive as those on other platforms.
When you arrive at the pickup location, which is usually a designated drop-off location, Amazon Locker, or warehouse, follow the prompts and then tap I’ve arrived.
A member of staff will then greet you, scan your arrival code and then direct you to the delivery items that you need to collect.
During the delivery process, you must use the app’s navigation to follow the route and complete the shipment.
When you arrive at each delivery destination, all you have to do is scan the correct package and choose where you want to drop off the package.
You must photograph the package if left unattended or obtain a signature if leaving it with anyone other than the customer.
They are similar, but in browser mode you have additional functionality to help you with deployment.
It should look the same whether you have the iPhone or Android version of the app.
The home button does exactly what you expect: it takes you to the first screen after logging in.
It shows your next scheduled blog and includes a pull-out menu to view other upcoming blogs.
You can see different types of blogs including Amazon Packages, Amazon Restaurants, Prime Now, and Amazon Fresh.
After you tag a blog, the update button becomes an accept button. So if you’re not searching properly, you can easily accept a blog you don’t want.
Clicking on that orange dot will show information about scheduled bans and also offer the option to use blocking.
If you are unable to complete a scheduled block, it is important that you block at least 45 minutes before the block begins.
If you give up within 45 minutes, you may receive a computer-generated email that feels like a slap on the wrist.
This will open a screen with information about the blocks you have completed and the earnings you have received.
If you need more information about winnings or deposits, you can click on a specific entry.
If you use this option, you will be asked which email client you would like to use. Always use the same email account that you used to sign up for Flex.
Changes to your address, email address, bank account, phone number, tax status, and license must be made in this section of the Amazon Flex application.
You can also click Check for Updates on this screen. Updates may elapse weeks, or they may appear to appear every other day for a period of time.
Developers will add features that will affect the stability of the app. Therefore, they need to add more updates or remove features to keep it running efficiently.
Sometimes you have to log out and back in to properly access the update you’re waiting for.
You probably don’t need to watch them since most of the submission process is fairly easy, but you can always watch again if you forget something you learned in the training.
The Help screen in the Amazon Flex app opens a list of various topics that includes several frequently asked questions.
If you use this feature, you will be asked which email client you would like to use to submit your issue.
Again, you must use the email address you provided when signing up for Amazon Flex to submit the request.
This feature gives drivers the opportunity to tell Amazon what they think of the app and the Flex program.
The only way for developers to know in real-time how their app is performing is through user feedback.
If you have any ideas or feel you need help with the delivery process, please get in touch to let us know!
Navigation in the Flex app is done using Bing Maps, and most Flex users agree that this is their least favorite navigation platform.
You don’t have to use the navigation provided in the app, but the GPS will still track your delivery.
From this menu you can call customer service, activate a GPS location, mark a package as undeliverable and return an item.
If you use the Undeliverable or Return feature, another screen will ask you why.
Clicking on this will open another screen showing the customer information along with the packing slips provided by the customer or other flexors.
If you scan the wrong package or are not in a specified area, the Delivery Options screen will not appear.
This is often due to a packet not being placed or the GPS pin not being plugged into the physical port.
If a household member is available, the app will ask for the name of the person you delivered to.
If delivery does not take place, you will be asked to take a photo of the package within sight.
When you do this, the app switches to landscape mode and displays a signature field for the recipient to sign.
It is important to note that your shipment may be delivered to two different locations, but will be listed as more than one delivery address.
If you have a “Multiple Shipping Address” select this option
